My first unreal project from scratch after many hours of tutorials and courses. I've always loved space, so naturally, I tried to create a space combat game.
I was very excited to create a space fighter in Blender and loved the process of tinkering
with the ship's design. In Unreal, I immediately started to work on the movement. The basics of it were
inspired by a
plane tutorial on Reid's channel.
There is no drag and immediate gravity in space, so my twist on it was implementing a true six degrees of
freedom (6DOF) movement, complete with moving up, down, and strafing, along with pitch, yaw, and roll.
I tried to be aware of the scaling of the game and the ship itself, so if someday this project wants to
compete with Star Citizen (wink), the standard mannequin sized character fits right in the cockpit.
For weapons, I really wanted to have a primary and a secondary. The secondary being a missile launcher,
with gradual acceleration on the rocket projectile. With these done, I threw together a test map with some
rings as waypoints and created my first ever "devlog" on YouTube.
I'm a seasoned PHP Backend Developer with 13 years of expertise and a passion for game
development.
In recent years, I've constantly followed Unreal Engine's evolution and begun
to work on my own portfolio of demo projects. I would like to work in the game development sector someday.
